이 상은 한국 문학의 대표적인 시인이다. 그러나 한국을 제외한 다른 나라에서는 대부분 잘 알려져 있지 않다. 이것은 번역의 어려움 때문일 수도 있다.
건축가, 그래픽 디자이너이면서 동시에 시인인 그의 시는 전통적 문학의 틀로만 이해될 수는 없을 것이다.
게다가 이 상의 시는 수학과 현대물라학에 대한 그의 놀랄만한 이해에 토대를 두고 있다. 그의 시는 공간-시간 구조에 관해 이야기하며, 시 자체로 시각적이고 기하학적인 구성 요소를 인쇄된 지면에 포함하고 있다.
이러한 장르를 초월하는 특성은 오늘날의 미술에서 볼 수 있는 현상이다. 우리의 목적은 작가 이 상에게 오마주를 표하는 것이며, 가치있는 그의 작품이 특히 유럽에 더 잘 알려지도록하는 것이다. 이것은 현대 미술의 프리즘 하에서 한국의 작가들과 해외 작가들이 그의 작품을 재해석하는 작업을 통해 이루어질 것이다.
우리의 국제 교류 프로젝트에서 이 상의 작품은 단순히 문학적인 관점에서만 보여지지 않을 것이다. 그의 시는 조형예술가, 퍼포머, 음악가에 의한 새로운 해석을 위한 출발점이 될 것이다. 전시, 퍼포먼스, 강연, 워크샵, 출판 등이 서울과 파리에서 있을 것이다.
