Invisible City

A performance record, Invisible City is a site-specific work addressing the hidden system of social institutions which our society is constructed of. In a park where an unusually large number of pigeons gathered, I used cookie crumbles to write some words on the ground, as a playful intervention in the space. After the pigeons finished picking, the trace of cookie crumbles denoting the words, “INVISIBLE CITY,” remained on the ground. The invisible system generates uneasiness about present and future for the members of society. Invisible City is intended to reveal the uneasiness of contemporary people whose fundamental desires are predictable and structured with the hidden, tightly controlled system.


퍼포먼스 기록영상인 <Invisible City>는 사회를 구성하고 있는 보이지 않는 사회서비스 시스템에 대한 장소 특성적 작업이다. 유난히 비둘기 떼가 많이 모여있는 어느 한 공원에 작가는 과자 부스럼으로 이 공간에 유희적 개입을 시도하여 바닥에 텍스트를 쓴다. 이 후 비둘기 떼가 이 먹이를 먹고 난 후 바닥에는 ‘invisible city’라는 흔적만이 남는다. 보이지 않는 시스템은 그 사회의 구성원들에게 현재와 미래에 대한 불안감을 만들어낸다. <Invisible City>는 현대의 도시가 은밀하게 감추고 있는 치밀한 시스템 속에서 지극히 예측 가능한 패턴의 원초적 욕망을 쏟아내는 현대인의 불안한 심리를 드러낸 작업이다.
